The clinical guidelines are integral to ensuring that healthcare decisions are based on the best available evidence. With the support of the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC), the National COVID-19 Clinical Evidence Taskforce was commissioned to develop (in partnership with the Infection Control Expert Group (ICEG) which advises the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) and a range of national professional societies and organisations) living recommendations to guide decision-making in the prevention of SARS-COV-2 infection in healthcare workers.

The Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare (AICGs) was jointly developed by the Commission and the NHMRC. The Guidelines, together with Commission guidance for specific organisms, provide healthcare workers and health service organisations with support to develop tailored protocols and processes for infection prevention and control at the local level.

This collection contains all of the Communicable Diseases Network Australia (CDNA) Series of National Guidelines (SoNGs). These guidelines give nationally consistent advice and guidance to Public Health Units to help them respond to notifiable diseases using best practice.

Advice on how to manage exposure to blood and body fluids and other infectious substances including protocols for cleaning up spills and waste disposal.
